Rick Gates
Rick Gates is an American lobbyist who worked for Paul Manafort both in Ukraine and on the Trump campaign.
According to The New York Times, Gates began working for Manafort as an intern at the lobbying firm Black, Manafort, Stone, Kelly nearly three decades ago and in 2006 joined Manafort’s later firm, Davis Manafort. Over the next several years, Gates worked with Manafort in Ukraine on both Manafort’s political consulting and as part of his business dealings with the Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska; Gates reportedly traveled to Moscow to meet with Deripaska’s associates, and his name appears in both incorporation documents and legal filings related to Deripaska and Manafort’s joint investments. Gates remained on the Trump campaign after Manafort left in August 2016, and after the election became part of the pro-Trump PAC America First Policies, ultimately leaving the organization in March. On October 30, 2017 Gates, along with Paul Manafort, was indicted as part of the Mueller investigation on 12 charges including money laundering and conspiracy against the United States. Both Manafort and Gates have pleaded not guilty to the charges. (Photo credit: Brendan Smialowski / AFP / Getty Images)
