Jared Kushner
Jared Kushner is President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser who led the Trump campaign’s digital-operations department during the election.
Under Kushner, the campaign focused heavily on running targeted ads on social media with the explicit intention of driving down turnout among key demographics expected to vote for Hillary Clinton, especially during the final few weeks of the campaign. This aspect of the campaign has reportedly become a major focus of Robert Mueller’s investigation, as it seems to align closely with the strategy apparently employed by Russian bot farms that also purchased ads on Facebook and Twitter. Kushner also attended the June 9, 2016, meeting at Trump Tower; he claims he arrived late and missed any conversation about damaging information on Clinton, although Donald Trump, Jr., has contradicted this claim. As the head of Kushner Companies, Kushner also oversees a financially struggling real-estate empire, creating numerous potential conflicts of interest and has received major loans from at least one company with extensive ties to Russia. In response to allegations of conflicts of interest, Kushner has insisted he will follow government ethics guidelines, “[indicating that he will] recuse himself if any conflicts arose.” (Photo credit: Mark Wilson / Getty Images)
