Krutoy is a wealthy Ukrainian-born Russian composer who met with Donald Trump and Ivanka Trump in 2010 as part of an attempt to build a Trump hotel complex in Riga, Latvia.
These plans were abandoned after Krutoy was reportedly “questioned by Latvian authorities as part of a major criminal inquiry,” although he has denied all wrongdoing. The FBI also reportedly examined Trump’s contacts with Krutoy. All parties denied that the business deal fell through as a result of the criminal inquiry, which involved another Latvian businessman, Ainārs Šlesers, “who was assisting the efforts to secure Trump’s involvement.” Šlesers was reportedly “suspected of using public office of influence decisions on property developments benefiting companies he secretly owned.” No charges were filed as a result of this case. Krutoy is acquainted with Emin Agalarov and Aras Agalarov, who of whom were instrumental in organizing the June 9th, 2016 Trump Tower meeting (the Agalarovs have denied any involvement in the business dealings between Krutoy and Trump.) Krutoy is a Putin supporter and “a close friend of Rinat Akhmetov,” who originally helped put Manafort in contact with former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych’s political party.
