Emin was born in Azerbaijan, grew up in Moscow, and attended college in New York. He is the executive vice president at his father’s real-estate development company. Until 2015, Emin was married to the daughter of the former president of Azerbaijan, Leila Aliyeva. The relationship between Trump and Emin began when Emin worked with his father to bring Trump to Moscow in 2013 for the Miss Universe pageant. During that trip Trump also filmed a music video with Emin, which was partially set in the Moscow Ritz-Carlton. Emin once stated that he considered Trump to be his friend, and indicated that they saw each other several times a year. In 2015, Trump sent Emin a recorded birthday message calling him a “winner” and a “champ.” Emin has claimed that he and his father chose land for and signed a letter of intent for Trump Tower Moscow, but that this deal was “sidelined” after Trump launched his presidential campaign.
